Whatever Happened To Osama Bin Laden?

I've asked this question before but apparently nobody has the answer...whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden? Remember him? The "leader" of al Quaida, the group that claimed responsibility for the 911 attacks on the United States....

It seems we hear less and less about bin Laden these days, even though our troops are still in action in Afghanistan and Iraq. Sure, there has been the occasional 'thought we seen him' and stuff like that, but the reality is, it appears no one knows what became of him.
Theories of his death abound, although no one has yet to turn up with a body. That they told us about...When last we heard from him, Osama Bin Laden appeared in less than vigorous health. He is reported to have kidney disease from diabetes and bad foot, possibly even a wound, and probably needed regular dialysis, which might be difficult to come by in a cave 'somewhere on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border'

I've always been a little suspicious of the whole hunt for bin laden ordeal, only in that it makes me wonder how he managed to slip away from what had to be intense pressure to find him, intense and I would say relentless pressure. Many of his cohorts have been caught or killed, and yet, he is still on the lamb. If the above reports and theories and speculations are correct, he is probably dead, and perhaps dead for a long time.

As I've said before, it wouldn't be in the best interest of all concerned to have him captured, or better yet, have his capture or death known to the world, because without him, the threat from extremist/terrorist types is lessened, or at least the percieved threat is lessened. Perhaps his followers are just as capable of continuing the fight, and I suppose, given that al qaida is considered a 'movement' or 'idea' more than an organization, it is hard to put a finger on the pulse, or strong hands around the neck of an 'idealogy'

So what's the news on Osama? Is he dead? Who knows, but apparently he is still making audio tapes, regardless of where he is....because as recently as June 3, 2009, CBS News has reported there is a new audio tape from Osama Bin Laden, in which CBS reports that bin laden is blaming U.S. President Barack Obama for planting seeds of "hatred and vengeance toward Americans" and warns of "new long wars." Nice to see he hasn't lost his touch....charming personality that he is...

Apparently the tape aired on al Jazeera, the Arabic news network, and has bin Laden accusing the U.S. President of being involved in Pakistan's military operation against Taliban forces in the Swat Valley.

The message came out around the same time that President Obama arrived in Saudi Arabia during a tour of the Middle East as the President works on his diplomatic relations in the area.

Of course, regardless of what anyone tells you, an audio tape is not as difficult to fake as a video, where pictures can be analyzed and studied for accuracy and clues to it's authenticity. On the other hand, computers do a wonderful job with voice recognition these days as well. Therefore, if it is a fake tape, perhaps made by someone else in the al Qaida, trying to keep the dream alive, it's possible, but unlikely.

But on the other-other hand, who is it exactly who verifies whether or not a tape is authentic? Is it the same folks who want to keep the bin laden persona alive a little longer? Or is it really him?
