Although the DaVinci Code sparked a worldwide interest in mysterious and secret societies, it wasn't the first book to explore this fascinating subject. There have been hundreds, if not thousands of books and papers written about secret societies and the secrets they may be protecting.

You will notice I said "secrets they may be protecting" as that is the very nature and the fascination with these groups. Do they hold secrets, or are they just secret? The Masons, or the Masonic Order, or Masonic Lodge as it is called, have been known to say that they are "not a secret society" but a "society with secrets" which of course can mean a very different thing.

In addition to groups like the Masonic Lodge, there are many more, some of them offshoots of another and some that have been in existence for as long as anyone can know. Others, seemingly gone, may infact still exist, but have disappeared from the radar in recent years, and are thought to be gone. Ahh, but that is part of the magic of secret societies now isn't it.....

I cannot claim, nor will I pretend to be an expert on the 'esoteric' as this type of thing is often referred, but I can claim to an unending fascination in all things esoteric. I love the stories, they legends, the conspiracy theories and the ideas that they spark in one's imagination.

Recently, thanks in no small part to some terrific books, this has become a topic of great interest and many books have been penned in the name of research or in an effort to answer the questions not only of the secret societies, but perhaps of the meaning of life and religion both past, present and future.

Through upcoming posts I hope to lead you to some great books and other writings and information on this interesting and engaging subject. Perhaps together we will solve our own Esoteric Code
